MORE INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS, TIME AND COST SAVINGS THROUGH COOPERATION

Linja Design and BJIT Inc. going into Asian and European software markets together

Linja Design, which is specialized in software-related interface design, and BJIT Inc., a software firm operating in Japan and Bangladesh, have agreed on cooperation. According to the agreement, the companies will mutually implement cost-effective software development which is innovative in terms of its interface design and generates added value for clients.

According to the cooperation concept, Linja Design will formulate an innovative program more appropriate for the customer, which BJIT then realizes. The purpose of collaboration is to benefit the customer at all stages of the project from planning to implementation as well as generate time and cost savings for clients.

“Added value for our customers is generated by the presence of Linja Design in Finland and the presence of BJIT in Japan. This will enable the expansion of both companies’ operations in new market areas,” Timo Vänttinen, Executive Vice-President of BJIT, says.

“We complement each other well,” Noreila and Vänttinen confirm. “Linja Design brings its design-related know-how connected with software-based interfaces to the customer, while with BJIT it’s a professional and effective realization. We believe that this concept will assure that the companies will increase in enthusiasm over the significance of software development.”

Gateway to the source of trends

For Linja Design, BJIT cooperation enables entry to Asia’s hot mobile market. BJIT is an inspiring partner for Linja Design, by means of which the enterprise will get closer to the core and trends of the field.

“ Japan is the number one country in the mobile field, which is proceeding five years ahead of the rest of the world,” declares Linja Design’s managing director, Vikki Noreila. On the other hand, BJIT's production country, Bangladesh, is a ‘new India’, in which top expertise effectively unites with an economical cost level.

The first project in common for the two companies is already in progress. The project is based on the Symbian environment for mobile phones, which represents both firms' core expertise.

–Japani on mobiilialan ykkösmaa, jossa mennään viisi vuotta muuta maailmaa edellä, toteaa Linja Designin toimitusjohtaja Vikki Noreila. BJIT:n tuotantomaa Bangladesh taas on ”uusi Intia”, jossa huippuosaaminen yhdistyy tehokkaasti edulliseen kustannustasoon.

Ensimmäinen yritysten välinen yhteistyöprojekti on jo käynnissä. Projekti perustuu matkapuhelinten Symbian-ympäristöön, joka on molempien yritysten ydinosaamista.

SWECO PIC AND LINJA DESIGN TO RE-ORGANISE THE DESIGN SECTOR

- LINJA DESIGN CONCENTRATES ON SOFTWARE USER INTERFACE DESIGN
- SWECO PIC STRENGTHENS ITS INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

SWECO PIC Oy and Linja Design Ltd have agreed on the sale of the product design business of Linja Design to SWECO PIC. The sale will take effect on 1 September 2006, making SWECO PIC one of the largest industrial design companies in Finland.

As a result of the sale, the product design team and product design projects of Linja Design, based in Helsinki, will be transferred to SWECO PIC. This will clarify the focus of Linja Design. After the sale Linja Design will employ 14 user interface designers.

"Designing software user interfaces a fast-growing sector and a special area that requires deeper specialization as the competition grows stronger," says Eljas Perheentupa, Chairman of the Board of Linja Design.

"With the new focus, Linja Design can further deepen its knowledge in user interface design. SWECO PIC is our long-time partner and we know that our award-winning product design team will be working in a company that focuses strongly on design. They will have the support of a large international organization and will be able to take part in international projects," states Vikki Noreila, Managing Director of Linja Design.

This reorganization will result in closer cooperation between SWECO PIC and Linja Design, and strengthen the future development of both the user interface design at Linja Design and the industrial design at SWECO PIC.

"We want to be a forerunner – an engineering company that offers integrated product development services and design services for the industry. Engineering companies in general do not offer industrial design services and design companies do not have broad engineering skills. We employ nearly 300 specialists in different areas of product design, mechanics, automation, electronics and design. The industrial designers now moving from Linja Design will further strengthen our services for example in development projects dealing with consumer electronics," says Jaakko Anttila from the Manufacturing Industry R&D unit.
